Dropping in

Just dropping in this little doodle.

Was done on an A5 piece of paper, mindless drawing that became one of my more favourites.

Probably make it into bigger deco one day.

Above is something I created with coloured pencils. Pencils take more time and patience with my work, unlike using a pen, I have to keep going over the same lines instead of (like below) having one definitive line after the other. So when more time is spent on lines, I end up creating an image with more recognizable forms eg. faces, hands, eyes. With the pen, I become more abstract, so I can end up creating imagery more about shapes and three dimensions.

I've come to learn that with each tool used, there comes a different outlook with this style. If the tool is delicate on the paper, the image becomes more delicate, if the tool is more straight on the paper, the image becomes the same.

Also, when it comes to my pen work, it also depends on the feeling I have when drawing. So at times I creates images like this one that has a lot of recognizable forms (refering to the faces, skull and so on), but otherwise I create images with less things that the brain can recognise instantly, so you end up creating for yourself what you are seeing.

 And this is the part that interests me the most, the main reason I have been evolving this style. What I see, you will probably see different. So with this style the viewer has a unique experience to themselves and also, I found that if I keep looking back at the same image, I end up seeing new things that I didn't before.

One side of life

I had an interesting christmas this (gone) year. The week around christmas day, and a little after. I spent time sitting and just drawing one picture after another. When you are sitting with no television or internet or even books as distractions, your mind starts wandering a little (understatement).

I didn't have a big family feast on christmas, no, I drew this picture (which I later edited on Photoshop quickly, again on my laptops mouse pad), as well as many others.

Anyway, this image is one of my renditions of what life means to me, or at least how I see life. I have endless ideas of the old question of 'the meaning of life', but this is one of them.

So for the celebratory season just gone, I didn't lather myself with the materialistic tradition of buying and receiving presents, instead I spent it sitting and creating with a good friend of mine who spent the whole time gaming xD

Lady of light

Yeah, cheesy title, but here's why:

I took a quick, not so good quality image of a drawing I made.

Yes, it's super lame quality image, but I have no access to a scanner at the moment and this was the best I could do.

So then I got a little adventurous on Photoshop, and again I currently don't have any access to my drawing tablet, so all the colouring and editing was done on my laptops mouse pad thing. Took longer than I thought, but it was fun.

Then I slapped on a background of one of my linear drawings to see how two of my more prominent styles look together, and voila!

I really dig the multiple arm thing at the moment, so expect to see more characters like this in the future.

 As a bonus, here is a sneak peak of a fluo painting I'm making. It's still in it's super rough stage, but soon, when I find the right moment for it, it will be painted with more than just one colour:

What am I looking at?

This is what happens whan I get my linework, copy paste a little here and there and add some effects:

I surprise myself with what can come out and how my line work, pretty much fits into itself in every direction, infinitely.

I end up thinking, "What the... What am I seeing here' xD

I present a small collection of my more figurative drawings.

I've always been very fond of drawing the human body, it's the most challenging yet the most versatile.

Below is some quick snapshots of: one finished piece (at the top), followed by a sketch that I have finished but I'll upload the finished piece on another date.

The last two a doodles that will probably never get finished as I have 289374892673623 different self set projects that I'm trying to start and finish.

I enjoy drawing the human figure so much that I always find it a shame to cover them up with clothes, so... look out for more near-naked bodies in the future.

 ^ This piece it a very personal image. I created this image at first over a year ago, big and beautifully painted, but then again, it was lost (long story). So a year later I decided to remake it but on a smaller scale.

 

 

Little quest

Okay, so currently I'm on the mission of editing all of my best/better drawings that I produced in the last 8 months.

 My sketchbook got stolen from a friends bag back in September and rather than wollow in my own sorrow, I accepted it as a challange to draw and create better things! It happened when I was traveling a little and since then, I've been drawing/creating like crazy. Now I'm getting it all together and refining what I have.

Enough mumble, I present an example a style I started making a little over a year ago. It first started as just doodles but over the year became more its own style:

 The first image is the original way that I drew this and the second one is the picture being flipped 180. The line work that you see is completely drawn on straight with a pen and no sketch or measurements were used. I try to capture a more 'organic' type of symmetry were the mistakes are not hidden. The colour however was done quickly on Photoshop.

-->> If you can make time, I am always interested in knowing what the viewer (this means you) sees. This style has an inkblot effect: that each individual sees something unique to them and I'm always fascinated to hear what you make from this.

In the beginning...

Welcome!

Starting a new blog to post pictures of my work. To begin, here is a Totem Panda:

Panda's are my favourite animal and have always been something for me to draw when I can't think of anything else. So when I have an artist block, I go ahead and draw panda's of all different shapes and sizes. Expect to see more of these little fellows as well as all my other crazy psychedelic/comic book influenced imagery.
